Maia Meskhi - Open Category - Piano - Gold Medalist - Georgia
I was born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and began my musical journey at the age of 7, guided by my mother. I later continued my studies at the Tbilisi Z. Paliashvili Central Music School for talented children—an institution with rich traditions dating back to 1934. I joined in the second grade and was already performing a piano concerto with orchestra, alongside solo repertoire. During my school years, I gave numerous solo recitals and regularly performed as a soloist with orchestra. My performance archive includes multiple piano concertos, ranging from Bach to Rachmaninoff. I also took part in various cultural events organized by the Embassies of Poland and the Czech Republic in Tbilisi, and performed in evenings hosted by Georgian composers. On one occasion, I was invited to record a Mozart concerto for a youth program on Georgian state television.
Although music was intended to be my future profession, unforeseen circumstances led me to take a different path. I earned a Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics from Tbilisi State University and have since worked in the field of Information Technology. After a 17-year break from the piano, I returned to music in the spring of 2024, realizing that I need it as much as I need air. Within six months of resuming practice, I prepared a full recital and also participated in the International Piano Competition for Amateurs “The Fourth Kölner Klavierzimmer” in Cologne, Germany, where I was awarded First Prize. I hope my story reflects the belief that it’s never too late to return to what you truly love. No matter where life leads, the passion for music can always find its way back.
